    Hi Philister,

    It’s a great question. “Broad” are the stakeholders who aren’t important but don’t reach the national level and have gone beyond the community level. Stakeholders are always measured from the center out. So thinking about the trial participant/potential end user as the center, “Broader” is in reference to that center. I often thinking about the category of “broader” being people who influence your decisions but are not part of your regular life. For instance a local reporter may write a story that influences whether or not you trust a researcher or trial. This broader stakeholder needs to be engaged because they may ultimately impact the end users understanding of, and trust in the research process.
