Stakeholder engagement is appreciated and recognized by our research team as it emphasized by the Clinical Trials Unit principal investigator who ensures that all team members appreciate community engagement. We have and continue to address the differences between stakeholder engagement and meeting protocol requirements such as recruitment, retention and adherence. Research team members have also joined the community team to educate stakeholders on clinical procedures such as blood draws, Pap smears (test to assess risk of cervical cancer), medical examination and composition the product. The efforts needs to continue and be strengthened by community guidelines.

You may not penetrate the community if the village elder is not involved. Therefore it is good to involve them for you to get the their support.

AdministratorAugust 20, 2015 at 3:38 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages. And Mo, you make a good point about stakeholder identification. There are some stakeholders who are strong champions and some who are strong ‘resisters’ or whose interests are possibly threatened. But most stakeholders fall somewhere in between, right? How do we identify those?
And, to chime in with another theme on the thread, when we open our doors and invite input, what if the stakeholder’s views doesn’t align with ours? How do we make our stakeholders feel valued, like their input counts for something— versus just a compulsory check on the research ticklist?

AdministratorAugust 20, 2015 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages.Hi Mo!
Where in the world (which geographic location/region/country) are you most active, in terms of work and involvement in the research process? Other work assignments will prompt you to do additional analysis of context, barriers, etc in a particular setting —and you will reflect on how these relate to stakeholder engagement in that setting.
Does that help, in terms of framing your thoughts?

Will you let me know what is happening when you click on the module link? Are you using Chrome or Firefox? Those browsers are more optimal than Explorer.
It might be an internet bandwidth issue. I would suggest downloading the offline content for the desktop/laptop on the lesson page. You do need internet access for the download, which takes a few minutes– but it converts to a zip file and then you can view the module while you are offline.
Let me know how it goes! We can also Skype tomorrow if you continue to have challenges.

To what extent does the research team with whom you work have an understanding of the value of stakeholder engagement? Explain your answer.
The research team in my site understand the value of the stakeholders as they are involved in stakeholders meeting. But they do not have a broader understanding of who a stakeholder is as has been explained here.
The CAB meetings are well attended. This is because the CAB is independent with an elected chairman and Secretary. My team only fund their meeting. They have been able to make great inputs like suggesting the other stakeholders that needed to be engaged. One of them suggested the provision of a toll-free line through which the team can be reach by the study participants.

AdministratorAugust 20, 2015 at 1:45 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages.I do agree stakeholder should be involved from early stages in HIV prevention trials on, although I think it is not so easy to define all stakeholders. Hope to learn a lot during the training course.
An other item I would like to bring up has to do with the first assignment, to describe the HIV epidemic in your community. As I am an employee of a global pharmaceutical company, living in the Netherlands, I am not so sure how to interpret this question. Our HIV prevention trial scope is global, not restricted to a certain country or community. Anybody else who has the same question or any suggestion from the group?

The research team I am working with has high level of understanding the value of stakeholder engagement. The team has close relation with community and can communicate efficiently either way around.

AdministratorAugust 20, 2015 at 11:50 am in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages. It is very important that the community stakeholders are involved in the development of messages because they are the best people who can advise on the best language to be used. This can only be very helpful if the stakeholders are involved from the beginning.

The research team has a good understanding of the importance of stakeholder engagement in research as we have a dedicated director and principal investigator who has made community engagement part of all team members role and responsibility (direct and indirect). Stakeholder engagement activities are discussed at weekly management meetings and at monthly research project meetings which includes the entire unit employees (over 100 employees). Documentation of stakeholder engagement follows the similar guidelines of Good Clinical Practice where logs and reports are written for community events and outcomes. our nurses, doctors, counsellors and investigators have been in the community to explain complex clinical issues such as Pap Smear (tests to assess cervical cancer), what the blood is used for in the laboratory and safety tests in trials. But it would be valuable if the research team members consistently maintain the relationships with stakeholders. Thus, monitoring and measuring the impact and role of research team members may be valuable.
