I do think that they should be involved in the media training and be involved in the messaging of results. I think it’s also important to involve them continuously, not just at results level. Things may happen during the course of the trial that can create media interest and if the key stakeholders are well informed about the trial, they may assist the site as well in informing the community. Perhaps we should look at media training as something we do early in the trial so as to prepare our stakeholders for anything that may happen during the course of the trial.

I do think the field has come a long way — in the past, many of us probably equated engagement purely with recruitment outcomes….
But, even though there is an increasing tendency to understand and improve our stakeholder engagement, I wonder if all researchers consider it a part of their day-today work or a part of the ‘core business’ at a trial site? What about when resources are tight?
Do we always approach engagement with a focused strategy and process? Do we see engagement as a ‘one off’ consultation with a partner or do we see value in keeping up the conversation and their involvement between trials?
I think our understanding is still evolving … and I hope this course illustrates that stakeholder engagement is actually much, much bigger than how we thought of it before…

Hi I believe my institution values stake holder engagement to a reasonable level as the give all the necessary support to the community engagement team and activities. When ever possible research team, CE team and CAB members participate in other stake holder activities/events sometime we organize these events colaboratively

This is very interesting topic I feel like I am behind its being hectic on my side with patient care. I will have to do my best to be on the same page with you.
I think stakeholders should be engaged as most of them they have a big influence in our communities. I fully agree with you but i have been asking myself that can we involve our stakeholders in our CAB structure as CAB members or that will be conflict of interest?

AdministratorAugust 19, 2015 at 4:44 am in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages.Stakeholders who do not support the trial should be involved too because not involving them is inciting more resistance from them. Remember stakeholders are people of influence in communities at different levels.
Involving them enables you address their concerns or minimize their negative reactions that would impact on study acceptance.
The ideal is to know how to involve them and when to involve them. As long as they are involved in early stages, their opposition is likely to reduce. People with influence usually expect you to recognise them and their importance. That could save alot of resistance, misconceptions and other undesirable outcomes for the trial.

AdministratorAugust 18, 2015 at 9:13 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages. They should be involved. Because not involving them could have negative effects on the trial. They should be involved to mitigate negative reaction. The first step to involving them is to find out what they objection is about i.e why they do not support the trial. when you find that you can then know the approach you need to handle these stakeholder.

They should also be furnished with regular updates. This is to prevent them from feeling left out in the process. From my experience they were involved in the Key message development training. This has helped in both mitigation and demand creation.

My institute has clear understanding of the value of stakeholder engagement to an extent that they are strategies in place in terms of reinforcing GPP complience in all research studies conducted at the institute. Though there is the “GAP” but hopefully after completion of this GPP course , we will be able to Cadre the GPP implementation training to the Institute at large, irrespectful of the research study.

AdministratorAugust 18, 2015 at 3:44 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages. This is an excellent point Neetha, Stakeholders should be considered on taking part on Media trainings together with staff as that will assist in minimising “Myths and Misconception”. Also if they can be actively part/ participate in CAB structures.

AdministratorAugust 18, 2015 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Role of stakeholders in developing trial results messages.Stakeholders should be engaged in the development of results messages so that they can own the results messages and help dispel misconceptions if any on the same in their relevant communities. this will be possible if they were engaged from the beginning and received research updates throughout the process.

There are some efforts made to understand the value of stake holder engagement in my organisation, the building of a Community Advisory Board, the community office in the organisation, the Regulatory affairs office which regulates and listens to the voices of the trial participant, meetings are held before, between and after any trials with the research participants.
How ever the broader picture of engagement is still lacking, some stake holders are only engaged at the beginning of any research but may never know what went on and how it ended.
The gap is still there for the team to understand broadly the value of stake holder engagement.

To what extent does the research team with whom you work have an understanding of the value of stakeholder engagement? Explain your answer.
from my site, i thin they do.
- our research team doctors value stakeholder meetings and if invited to a dress they avail themselves.
- team members know and appreciate that before we begin a trial our community advisory group should be involve from the word go.
- support for our community advisory group is great.
- other staff members know they value of stakeholder engagement to an extend that they become concern if they do not see other stakeholders in our activities.

AdministratorAugust 18, 2015 at 11:16 am in reply to: Access to assessment for Module 0And thanks everyone for your feedback on Module 0. On our end, it is accessible and working fine.
A few points to remember:
— the most optimal browser to use is Chrome! Internet Explorer is the least optimal
— module download can be affected by bandwidth, so do consider the offline options (there are hyperlinks for offline desktop and iPad viewing on the lesson page)– you still need Internet bandwidth for the initial download process, so if you can, hook yourself up to a cable for better connection (versus just wireless connectivity). This sometimes helps my module viewing in SA!
— lastly, you must let all of the audio play AND click on all of the interactive elements on a screen before pressing the Next button
In the interest of time, please continue with the baseline assessment and then Module 1– Module 0 is simply an overview of the online modules’ navigation features. It does not contain GPP content. But we are actively following up on your feedback, and I may reach out to some of you for more detail!
Good luck and reach out anytime! We are here to help!!

Actually, the assignments are exactly the same for Tracks A and B for Week 1 — so your preference is for Track A, correct?
I hope you enjoy it!
