My name is Scholastica Njogu( Njogu is the local name for elephant😊) from Kenya and I work in HIV prevention research. I farm my own vegetables/fruits and love dancing.

I hope to expand my skills in community engagement during study recruitment/retention and result dissemination and also advocate for implementation of evidence-based practices through engaging with stakeholders to advocate for policy change and creating awareness

[Scholastica Njogu]

During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, on site visits by participants was halted for 4 months. We brainstormed on ways to keep engaging with participants (15-20 year old girls) in a HPV vaccine study. Most of us were sceptical on using social media but we gave it a try. We have 3 whatsapp groups for the participants which are active to date. There are set rules, the groups are open 8 to 5. It has been a great platform to address issues on SRH, HIV, relationships, career. Internet connectivity and availability of smart phones for this cohort is high.
