Social Media Listening tips and tools

Internews February 7, 2024

Social media can often be a great source for the latest important updates about a particular topic, but can also be a quicksand of information overload and if we aren’t careful, we can waste hours of our time scrolling endlessly and not having much to show for it.

Many legitimate and respected experts use social media to share and discuss new data, findings and insights, so it helps to know how to use social media to hone in on the latest from trusted researchers and organisations.  The concept of ‘social media listening’ is about being more intentional about what we pay attention to on social media. We may be accustomed to scrolling through the infinite streams of posts that algorithims think we are most interested in, but that’s rarely the most efficient way to uncover the most reliable information. Fortunately, there are ways to filter the noise so we can more clearly hear and listen to the voices of people and organisations who we respect and rely on.
