Scientific enquiry is the process that scientists use to answer how the world works and why?

The steps of scientific enquiry are as follows:

  1. Define a problem or ask a question
  2. Make observations and/or conduct initial research
  3. Form a hypothesis (which is an educated guess or prediction, based on the information you have at the time)
  4. Plan and conduct an experiment that will give you information you can use to solve your problem (and specifically test your hypothesis, to see whether your initial prediction is correct or incorrect)
  5. Gather and analyze the results
  6. Form a conclusion
  7. Explain your experiment to others

If your experiment can be repeated again to get the same results, then your hypothesis will turn into a theory.

The scientific method is a step-by-step way to solve problems and answer questions logically.
