Statistical approaches for scale development and validation

Welcome to Part #3 in the Project Engage Workshop series on Psychometric Scales. This workshop reviews the key steps in scale development and evaluation process, as it applies to health, social, and behavioral outcomes. While reviewing the process, statistical approaches are discussed along with related techniques commonly used in each step, both to facilitate the development of new, valid, and reliable scales, and to help improve existing ones.
About the Instructors:
Andres Martinez is a Quantitative Social Scientist at FHI 360. Mr. Martinez has more than 10 years of experience providing support to social science researchers in the design and analysis of impact evaluation studies, survey design, instrument testing, data capturing and management, and statistical reporting. He has particular expertise in hierarchical and structural equation modeling, psychometrics, and data visualization. His broad interests are in statistical and data science applications in the behavioral, health and social sciences.
Seth Zissette is a PhD student in Epidemiology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. His research has been focused on infectious disease epidemiology with specific training and expertise in research design; statistical, geospatial, and qualitative analysis; and cognitive assessment/scale development.
