Project Engage Workshop: mHealth Tools to Improve HIV Prevention and Treatment Outcomes
Description: This video will provide an overview of mHealth, current tools for HIV prevention and treatment, and strategies for increasing engagement with mHealth tools. We will present examples across multiple settings, including sub-Saharan Africa. We specifically take a look at the Vuka+ app, an adherence app currently being tested in Project Engage.

About the Presenters:
Kate Muessig, PhD (she/her) is a Professor in the College of Nursing at Florida State University (FSU) and is the founding Associate Director of the Institute on Digital Health and Innovation at FSU. Prior to joining FSU, she was a tenured faculty member at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health (2013 – 2022). Dr. Muessig received her PhD at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research develops interventions combining digital health tools, behavior-change strategies, and health systems navigation to decrease HIV transmission and improve health care for people living with HIV. She has served as Primary Investigator or Co-Investigator on numerous federally funded studies through the National Institutes of Health, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and USAID.
Homaira Hanif, PhD is a behavioral researcher with extensive experience in designing and implementing interventions across multiple settings, working in research and program implementation. She is on faculty at Eastern Virginia Medical School, with CONRAD a non-profit biomedical R&D organization, where her work focuses on end user research, evaluating product acceptability and supporting adherence behaviors.
